The rolling valley views seen from Ward Cottage have been enjoyed by the Ward family for over two hundred years. Our ancestor Benjamin Ward, a Patriot in the Revolutionary War, was one of the first recorded settlers to the Cove Creek area in Watauga County. The 100 acre woods that are part of Ward Cottage and Carriage House are a small piece of his original holdings.  Two Ward homes, a log cabin and a classic Georgian farmhouse, both predating 1875, once sat within 100 yards of the present day house. The current Ward Cottage and Carriage house were built in 1996 but contain salvaged elements from the

earlier family homes. This unique cottage offers southern comforts and a rich history in a rustic setting.

The property sleeps 8 -9 (if one of them is a child) and is the perfect spot to stay if you are traveling with two families,  grandparents or teenagers. This tranquil mountain cottage is located minutes from Boone and Valle Crucis in the valley of Sugar Grove.  Nestled on the side of a small mountain, this retreat has enchanting Watauga River valley views which can be enjoyed from the many large front windows of the cottage and the charming front porch.

 The Main House sleeps 6

 3 Bedrooms - 1 King size bed, 1 Queen size bed, and 2 twin beds

2 Baths - Master bath is en suite with double sinks and walk-in closet

Large Family Room - opens to back patio and boasts a unique fireplace

Dining Room with valley views -  farm table comfortably seats 8

Fully stocked Kitchen - feel free to use the spices, oils, vinegars, etc. in the pantry

Laundry area - located close to the garage for easy clean up after a day of fishing or wading in the river!

1 Bedroom, Full size bed (plus a "Harry Potter Cupboard" with sleeping cot, perfect for kids 10 and under)

1 Bath - unique bathroom tucked in an eave with a camp style shower

Dining area - just perfect for 3 guests

Beautiful "real" mountain decor - many of our furnishings were made in the NC mountians over the last 150 years, Air conditioning, Ceiling Fans,Wifi, Cable TV, 300 Thread Count Sheets, Towels, Wash Cloths, Hairdryers, Soap, Books, Games, Puzzles, Grill,  Sports Equipment (lacrosse sticks, balance board, basketballs, racquets...), Kites, some Toys and Children's Books, and Loads of Fresh Air!

  Enjoy the 2 mile trail, fire pit - great for roasting marshmallows,  a magical woodland treehouse, and trickling brook - perfect for salamander catching, as well as, tranquil woods filled with flora and fauna. Feel free to pick the raspberries, blackberries, and abundant wildflowers. Ward Cottage and Carriage House is the perfect place to

relax and rejuvenate!
